Jack Of All Trades Or Master Of One

A common trap to fall into is to book on and gain as many qualifications as possible. Sound familiar? I did this when I first became qualified, I began looking for the next course and the next tool I could use.

Looking at a vast array of disciplines that could allow me to be more appealing to clients and potential customers. Is this you?

It is a question that you should consider and in my opinion decide against. Ask yourself a question, when you are paying for a service do you want a specialist, someone who really knows what they are doing and talking about or someone who does this particular service as a side line?

Usually Health, Wellbeing and Fitness professionals that are new to business make the decision that they will work with everyone – or anyone that will pay for their service. Is this you?

Below are four top reasons you should specialise!

More time to grow and research

By specialising in one aspect you allow yourself the opportunity and time to hone your skills and try new approaches. If you are qualified and need to keep up with a number of changes in differing disciplines, then your time to concentrate and grow is severely watered down. The heart of a business/services is to help or solve a client’s needs specifically. Helping you to differentiate from other fitness professionals.

Helping to create your own market and gaining a solid foundation for your business, rather than reacting to fitness fads and ever changing needs of fluctuating clients. Being specialised will help and enable you to create a solid foundation.

People will find you

When you search for something online, what do you type? Generic training? Say you have a faulty fuse box at home. Do you call the local landscape gardener who does a bit of electrician’s work on the side or a specialist electrician?

Simple yet effective, also solving your need as a customer. It’s the same with any other service industry.

If you specialise in one or possibly two areas you will be able to speak direct to individuals that are in that specific market. Today the internet along with social media enables you to locate specialists in a heartbeat. Making it easy to find what you are looking for. So at first glance being able to offer an array of services might seem like you are covering all the bases but nowadays you will simple fall behind exact matches and specialists.

You get a better reputation

Ever heard the saying that one bad review is worth 10 good? We would have to agree with that.

The minute you get one bad review, that’s all people tend to scrutinise & study. Another vital aspect of a fitness professional’s career and business is word of mouth. You hear this phrase quite often “Yeah, they were OK but it’s not really their field or expertise.” The word “OK” is as damaging as bad!

At first it might seem as though business is passing you by, however very soon you will get known for what you specialise in and a reputation is grown.

For example as a Personal Trainer. You are up against every other PT within the surrounding area. If every personal trainer are offering the same thing and take every client that come their way, then your service will be very generic. The only thing that will eventually spate you from the others is price and offers.

Pricing of an expert

As a specialist, you will be able to charge a little more and hold your prices. Especially if you have continued to develop within this area from basic training. Mainly because you offer unique solutions to your clients for their specific needs.

When you first start, it is a daunting prospect. We would recommend you do a little research and see if specialists seem to have more of a following as a start off.

If you want to begin a career within fitness you will need to start with the Level 2 Gym or Exercise to music, why not have a look and see if Body Aid Solutions could help you fulfil that dream?
